Postcard from Atrani

A fisherman’s enclave tucked along the undulating curves of the Amalfi coastline, Atrani is a romantic moment suspended in time. One of the few villages of the Amalfi Coast that remains delightfully local, the town exudes an unassuming charm that contrasts  her more visible neighbors of Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi.

With less than 1,000 inhabitants, Atrani sparkles against a sapphire Mediterranean backdrop with uniquely preserved medieval architecture, inspiring views of the sea and some of the freshest local seafood eateries to be found on the costiera. An ancient town dating back to 500 AD with vestiges of its past immortalized in frescoes and mosaics, Atrani epitomizes the rich history and vibrant culture of the province. When the twinkling stars of the night time sky appear, Atrani’s fisherman drift out onto inky, iridescent waters  in small boats to catch fish by surprise, while the town is illuminated by lively locals sitting along the white washed scalinatelle (steps) and balconies that adorn the ancient palazzi of Piazza Umberto I. A slice of the quintessential Costiera Amalfitana lifestyle.
